3D Printing, Laser Cutting, Clay, Acrylic
This is a sculpture I created for my senior art show in high school. I was initially inspired by a sketch I made (pictured on the left) and I thought the complexity of the project would be a good excuse to push the boundaries of my 3D modeling skills so I made both the brain and the astronaut in Blender and Sculptris.

MODELING THE ASTRONAUT
I made a basic box model of the astronaut in Blender then sculpted the details in Sculptris. Once I was happy with model, I rigged it so it could be posed in various positions. I then 3D printed them on a Makerbot 3D printer and painted them with acrylic paint.

MODELING THE BRAIN
I sculpted the brain in Sculptris and had initially planned to 3D print it, but then I realized printing the brain at the size I wanted would be incredibly expensive and time consuming. Instead I imported the model into Autodesk 123D Make and sliced it so that it could be laser cut out of cardboard.
Once I assembled the cardboard structure, I realized I didn't like the appearance of the cardboard so I covered it in a thin layer of clay to smooth out the ridges.
